text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-0127150553352455\" data-ad-slot=\"7834404329\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\n<strong>CDC surveillance case definition laboratory criteria for HIV-1 infection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Persons \u226518 months and children &lt;18 months born to HIV-negative mothers<\/strong><br \/>\nHIV-infected (one of the following):<br \/>\nA multitest algorithm consisting of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A positive HIV antibody or combination antigen\/antibody test<\/li>\n<li>An accompanying or subsequent positive result from a supplemental test different from the initial test<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A positive result from a multitest HIV antibody algorithm from which only the final result was reported<\/p>\n<p>A positive result or report of a detectable quantity from any of the following HIV virologic tests:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Qualitative HIV nucleic acid test (DNA or RNA)<\/li>\n<li>Quantitative HIV nucleic acid test (viral load assay)<\/li>\n<li>HIV-1 p24 antigen<\/li>\n<li>HIV isolation (viral culture), or<\/li>\n<li>HIV nucleotide sequence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Children &lt;18 months born to mothers with HIV infection or unknown HIV status<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>HIV-infected (all three of the following):<\/p>\n<p>Positive results on at least one specimen (not including cord blood) from any of the following HIV virologic tests:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HIV-1 NAT (DNA or RNA)<\/li>\n<li>HIV-1 p24 antigen test, including neutralization assay for a child aged &gt;1 month<\/li>\n<li>HIV isolation (viral culture)<\/li>\n<li>HIV nucleotide sequence (genotype)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The test date is known<\/p>\n<p>One or both of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Confirmation of the first positive result by another positive result on one of the above virologic tests from a specimen obtained on a different date; or<\/li>\n<li>No subsequent negative result on an HIV antibody test, and no subsequent negative result on an HIV NAT before age 18 months<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-0127150553352455\" data-ad-slot=\"7834404329\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\n<strong>Definitively HIV-uninfected<\/strong> (both of the following)<br \/>\nNo positive HIV NAT (RNA or DNA)<br \/>\nAt least one of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At least two negative HIV NATs from specimens on different dates at age \u22651 month of age, one of which was obtained at age \u22654 months<\/li>\n<li>At least two negative HIV antibody tests from specimens obtained on different dates at age \u22656 months<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Presumptively HIV-uninfected<\/strong> (all three of the following)<br \/>\nDoes not meet criteria for definitively uninfected<br \/>\nMeets at least one of the following four laboratory criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At least two negative NATs from specimens obtained on different dates at age \u22652 weeks, one of which was obtained at age \u22654 weeks<\/li>\n<li>One negative NAT (RNA or DNA) at age \u22658 weeks<\/li>\n<li>One negative HIV antibody test at age \u22656 months<\/li>\n<li>If criteria for HIV infection had initially been met by one positive HIV NAT test, then it must have been followed by at least two negative results from specimens obtained on different dates, one of which is:\n<ul>\n<li>A NAT test from a specimen obtained at age \u22658 weeks, or<\/li>\n<li>An HIV antibody test from a specimen obtained at age \u22656 months<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No subsequent NAT<\/p>\n<p><strong>Indeterminate<\/strong><br \/>\nDoes not meet criteria for HIV-infected or HIV-uninfected (definitive or presumptive)<\/p>\n<p>CDC: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention;
