Most importantly, CT excludes acute hemorrhage or other diseases mimicking ischemia.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Infarction: focal <span class=\"SpellE\">hypodense<\/span> area, in cortical, <span class=\"SpellE\">subcortical<\/span>, or deep gray or white matter, following vascular territory, or watershed distribution. Early subtle findings include obscuration of gray\/white matter contrast and effacement of <span class=\"SpellE\">sulci<\/span>, or &#8220;insular ribbon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Hemorrhage: <span class=\"SpellE\">hyperdense<\/span> image in white or deep gray matter, with or without involvement of cortical surface (40 to 90 HU). <span class=\"SpellE\">Petechial<\/span> refers to scattered <span class=\"SpellE\">hyperdense<\/span> points, coalescing to form irregularly <span class=\"SpellE\">hyperdense<\/span> areas with <span class=\"SpellE\">hypodense<\/span> interruptions. <span class=\"SpellE\">Hematoma<\/span> refers to a solid, homogeneously <span class=\"SpellE\">hyperdense<\/span> image.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span class=\"SpellE\">Hyperdense<\/span> image in major intracranial artery: suggestive of vascular embolic material.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Calcification: <span class=\"SpellE\">hyperdense<\/span> image within or attached to vessel wall (&gt;120 HU).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Incidental: silent infarct, <span class=\"SpellE\">subdural<\/span> collection, tumor, giant aneurysm, <span class=\"SpellE\">arteriovenous<\/span> malformation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;\">.<\/p>\n<p><strong>References:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span class=\"SpellE\">Culebras<\/span> A, <span class=\"SpellE\">Kase<\/span> CS, <span class=\"SpellE\">Masdeu<\/span> JC, Fox AJ, Bryan RN, Grossman CB, Lee DH, Adams HP, <span class=\"SpellE\">Thies<\/span> W.
