The sensitivity of the PERC rule is 96% to 100% and specificity is 15% to 27%.<\/p>\n<p>Variable<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Age &lt;50 yr<\/li>\n<li>Pulse &lt;100 bpm<\/li>\n<li>SaO2 &gt;94%<\/li>\n<li>No unilateral leg swelling<\/li>\n<li>No hemoptysis<\/li>\n<li>No recent trauma or surgery<\/li>\n<li>No prior pulmonary embolism\/ deep venous thrombi<\/li>\n<li>No hormone use<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The PERC rule has not been validated for people with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Active cancer, thrombophilia or a strong family history of thrombophilia<\/li>\n<li>Transient tachycardia or beta-blocker use that may mask tachycardia<\/li>\n<li>Leg amputations<\/li>\n<li>Morbid obesity (leg swelling not easily determined)<\/li>\n<li>Baseline hypoxaemia when oximetry reading &lt;95% is longstanding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the patient\u2019s PERC score is &gt;0, then an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)-type D-dimer is recommended.
