These disorders are characterized by disordered motility and visceral hypersensitivity that are often worsened by psychological distress.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rome IV Diagnostic Criteria for Belching Disorders<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Must include all of the following:<\/p>\n<p>Bothersome (ie, severe enough to impact on usual activities) belching from the esophagus or stomach more than 3 days a week<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">2a: Excessive supragastric belching (from esophagus)<br \/>\n2b: Excessive gastric belching (from stomach).<\/p>\n<p>Supportive remarks<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supragastric belching is supported by observing frequent, repetitive belching<\/li>\n<li>Gastric belching has no established clinical correlate<\/li>\n<li>Objective intraluminal impedance measurement can be used to distinguish supragastric from gastric belching.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Criteria fulfilled for the last 3 months with symptom onset at least 6 months before diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>References:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Wilkinson JM, Cozine EW, Loftus CG.
